[Assess risk](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/learn/learn-the-methodology?hsLang=en#assess-risk) # Assess risk ## Know what’s at stake Throughout this series, we’ve explored how Vibrant Planet helps you [identify landscape features](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/learn/strategic-areas-resources-assets?hsLang=en), [view wildfire hazard](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/learn/wildfire-hazard-model?hsLang=en), and build [planning areas](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/learn/planning-areas-and-distinct-management-areas?hsLang=en). Now we will consider how the wildfire hazard interacts with identified HVRAAs to determine risk.  | ![](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/hs-fs/hubfs/Page%206%20Cap1%20Pic%201-png.png?width=670&height=248&name=Page%206%20Cap1%20Pic%201-png.png) | ![](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/hs-fs/hubfs/page%206%20cap%201%20pic%202-png.png?width=670&height=248&name=page%206%20cap%201%20pic%202-png.png) | | --- | --- | | ![](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/hs-fs/hubfs/Page%206%20cap%201%20pic%203-png.png?width=335&height=124&name=Page%206%20cap%201%20pic%203-png.png) | | Vibrant Planet displays the wildfire hazard (burn probability x intensity) for your entire landscape (picture 1 above) and then considers the interaction of a hazard with all HVRAAs on your landscape (picture 2 above) and calculates the wildfire risk to those HVRAAs (picture 3 above). As we have previously covered, wildfire hazard is the probability that a fire will occur in a specific geographic location and the predicted intensity of that potential wildfire. Risk is the likelihood of the wildfire hazard to decrease the value of a single or multiple HVRAAs. Each HVRAA has a unique set of response functions to every class of wildfire hazard.  ![Screenshot 2026-04-15 at 11.59.28 AM](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/hs-fs/hubfs/Screenshot%202026-04-15%20at%2011.59.28%20AM.png?width=427&height=289&name=Screenshot%202026-04-15%20at%2011.59.28%20AM.png) Vibrant Planet exposes each HVRAA to the wildfire hazard and determines the risk to that HVRAA’s value if no management were to occur. This also means that you can isolate and consider risk to specific objective categories of HVRAAs.  ![](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/hs-fs/hubfs/Page%206%20cap%202-png.png?width=670&height=247&name=Page%206%20cap%202-png.png) *In the picture above Vibrant Planet displays the wildfire risk for a specific category of HVRAAs (safety). * In the next section we will [explore the management options available](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/learn/understand-possible-management-options-for-your-area?hsLang=en) as you plan across your landscape.  - [Learn the Methodology](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/learn/learn-the-methodology?hsLang=en#main-content) - [Assess your landscape](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/learn/learn-the-methodology?hsLang=en#assess-your-landscape) - [Pinpoint areas for scenario planning](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/learn/learn-the-methodology?hsLang=en#pinpoint-areas-for-scenario-planning) - [Calculate wildfire hazard](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/learn/learn-the-methodology?hsLang=en#calculate-wildfire-hazard) - [Determine highly valued resources, assets, and areas](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/learn/learn-the-methodology?hsLang=en#determine-highly-valued-resources-assets-and-areas) - [Utilize planning areas and distinct management areas](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/learn/learn-the-methodology?hsLang=en#utilize-planning-areas-and-distinct-management-areas) - [Assess risk](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/learn/learn-the-methodology?hsLang=en#assess-risk) - [Understand possible management options for your area](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/learn/learn-the-methodology?hsLang=en#understand-possible-management-options-for-your-area) - [Build a common operating picture](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/learn/learn-the-methodology?hsLang=en#build-a-common-operating-picture) - [Emphasize management objectives](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/learn/learn-the-methodology?hsLang=en#emphasize-management-objectives) - [Build prioritized, sequenced project plans](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/learn/learn-the-methodology?hsLang=en#build-prioritized-sequenced-project-plans) - [Gather consensus amongst partners](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/learn/learn-the-methodology?hsLang=en#gather-consensus-amongst-partners) - [Review project statistics](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/learn/learn-the-methodology?hsLang=en#review-project-statistics) - [Get ready for the field](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/learn/learn-the-methodology?hsLang=en#get-ready-for-the-field) - [Glossary](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/learn/glossary?hsLang=en) - [Use the Platform](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/learn/use-the-platform?hsLang=en) - [HVRAAs](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/learn/hvraas?hsLang=en) - [New Features](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/learn/new-features?hsLang=en) - [Product Guide](https://drive.google.com/file/d/149qq3U4d6Z1fCQhYBDQArfqRYSEhMnzP/view) - [STELA Schema](https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/18dQDbBqMdVwCj2b_pZYlm8ZxlsFrd-cWNBmkM1jY0U8/edit?gid=0#gid=0&fvid=881275009) [![Chill listening crop-3](https://go.vibrantplanet.net/hs-fs/hubfs/Copy%20of%20VP_Avatar_Color_RGB%20(2).png?width=24&height=24&name=Copy%20of%20VP_Avatar_Color_RGB%20(2).png "Chill listening crop-3")](https://www.vibrantplanet.net/) Vibrant Planet | Copyright 2024 Copyright © 2025, Vibrant Planet
